​Recycling nutrients is an important part of sustainable energy production

​Direct co-firing of biomass in power plants poses problems for ash utilization. If the ratio of bio ash becomes too high then the ash can no longer be utilized by the cement industry as coal ash is today. However, by using Low Temperature Gasification where coal and bio ash streams are kept separate, both ashes can be utilized.

Coal ashes can continuously be used for producing high quality cement and concrete and bio ashes can be utilized by the farming industry as this ash is rich in nutrients such as mainly potassium and phosphorus.

​In coal and waste incineration plants these nutrients are either deposited in by products or bound in complex
chemical compounds where they no longer can be utilized. Recycling nutrients is an important part of sustainable energy production as these are a limited resource. With Low Temperature Gasification nutrients can be continuously recycled ensuring availability of farming nutrients for generations to come.The flow of nutrients when using biomass for energy purposes is shown below. Here it is clear that using traditional combustion technology extracts nutrients while Low Temperature Gasification recycles them.
